2017 GVDA Calendar now available

Winter 2017 Sign up and Annual General Meeting of the GVDA is on January 3rd 2017 at Sunset Lanes. We will hold the traditional $5 members' blind draw tournament opening at 7:00pm for tournament sign up with announcements starting at 7:30pm prior to the tournament start.

Individual membership dues for the year will once again be just $30. Tavern fees (per team per season) will also remain at $60 for Winter & Fall seasons and $20 for the shorter Summer season.

In an effort to reduce darts burn-out we are sticking to the 14 weeks to cover regular season plus playoffs that we are operating for the current season. In future years this should mean more time between seasons during which we may hold additional tournaments or events.

We are not all DeBruynes or Dwyers and are happy to announce that there will be no GVDA play scheduled for Valentine's night 2017, or for July 4th and Halloween which also fall on Tuesdays next year. We still feel there is a comfortable feel to the schedule in spite of this.

ADO Region 5-2 Cricket Regional update; GVDA mid-season update; 2017

Hi everyone!

ADO CRICKET REGIONAL:

The ADO 5-2 Cricket Regional was this past Saturday (11/5) and boy what a tough room! We had 10 shooters, which included our very own Dale LaFrance and Robert Stewart. The top spot went to Mat Malone, an Independent ADO member, 2nd went to Ryan Morey from STDL, 3rd went to Robert Stewart (yeah!!) and 4th went to Greg Von Lienen from TCNY

Mat is advancing to the cricket final in Vegas in late January! We had an extra $220 entry fees and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishers were given the opportunity to pay the difference and advance. Ryan and Greg were unable to, but Robert is seizing the opportunity to play in the National final!

Rule of the week 11-8-2016

Shooting the Bull

If both player's darts land within the double bull the throw is a tie and a rethrow is made (second thrower now throwing first.) If both darts land within the single bull the throw is tied and a rethrow is made as above. If one player's dart lands within the single bull and one player's dart lands within the double bull, the double bull wins.

Tuesday, November 1, 2016

Rule of the week 11-1-2016

Throwing for the Bull - Part 1
1) All legs begin with the opposing players throwing for the bull. The chalker is responsible for determining which dart is closer to the bull. Darts MAY NOT be touched until AFTER a decision has been made. A player touching a dart in the board before that decision loses the throw.

2) The home team has the option of throwing for the bull first to begin the first leg of all games. The loser of the first leg has the same option to begin the second leg. If a third leg is needed, the visiting team has the option.

3) Only players named to play in the game may throw for the bull. In doubles, only one player from each team throws for the bull.

Rule of the Week

Been thinking about starting the " Rule of the week " back up , so with the new season coming up i wanted to start with chalking .

 Chalker’s Responsibilities
1) The chalker’s function is to keep score. Engaging in other activities while chalking is not allowed. Chalkers are to face the dartboard, keep movements to a minimum and be considerate of the thrower.
 2) A chalker must not distract the player at the hockey. A chalker may not stare at the shooter, lean in to check the score between darts thrown, or speak without being requested to do so.
 3) A chalker may not in any way advise the thrower on outs, shot choice or strategy. When asked, a chalker may advise the thrower as to points scored and points remaining only. Such information is not official and the player acts upon it at his/her own risk.
 4) It is permissible for other players or spectators to advise the thrower, upon request, during the match.
5) If you must use a calculator, cell phone, automatic dart scorer, or other device to help do math:
a. Please do not enter any darts, scores, or values into it until the shooter has thrown all three darts.

Weather Postponement

In light of the continued ban on all unnecessary travel, the fact that 490 is closed and the weather radar that calls for continuing snow until at least 6pm the GVDA has decided to postpone darts for this evening. Please inform your taverns in the event that may want to close. Matches will be made up in week 9 as part of a double points night as the schedule is an exact duplicate of tonight's schedule. Alternatively, if captains agree, matches can be made in a different manner. Options include playing on a different night or, if the tavern has 2 boards, 2 matches can be played simultaneously rather than counting each individual match as 2 points. If you choose one of these alternatives to make up your match please inform the GVDA via email or by putting a note on the score reporting portal. Thanks. Stay safe and warm.

Bad Weather February 16th

Currently there is a no-unnecessary-travel advisory in Monroe and other surrounding counties. We will make a decision by mid afternoon on what the plan is for tonight's matches so keep an eye out on this news blog for updates. Thanks & be safe!

LOCAL ADO WINMAU MASTERS QUALIFIER RESULTS

The first ADO qualifier for 2016 was a HUGE success!

We had 12 players broken into two groups (Clubs and Spades) of 6. The top 3 from each group advanced to a final round robin group. The GVDA kicked in $50 towards a 2nd player advancing and each of the finalist put in $10 each to fully fund a second player from Rochester advancing to the Regional/National qualifier in March.

Here is the breakdown:

Dan Houser came out on top in the final round robin and there was a 3-way tie between Robert Stewart, Dale LaFrance and Andy Joss. They went into a tiebreaker..round robin of one leg of 501. Robert came out on top to secure the second spot. Dale LaFrance is the 1st alternate and Andy Joss the 2nd alternate.

Congratulations to Dan and Robert and to all the shooters!! Dan and Robert will be representing Rochester in the Regional/National qualifier on March 13th.
